Group Head – Clinical Data Management

Job Summary

Novartis is seeking an experienced and strategic Group Head – Clinical Data Management (CDM) to lead a diverse team of Clinical Data Scientists, Acquisition Specialists, and Coding Specialists. Based in Hyderabad, this leadership role is pivotal in driving data quality, regulatory compliance, and resource optimization across therapeutic areas. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in clinical research, data acquisition, and trial delivery, with proven line management experience in global pharma environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of ~20 CDM professionals including hiring, mentoring, and performance management

  • Allocate resources effectively across projects and prioritize based on business needs

  • Ensure adherence to KPIs: quality, cost, timelines, and productivity

  • Drive innovation and process improvement initiatives across Clinical Data Acquisition and Management

  • Participate in Health Authority inspections and maintain regulatory compliance

  • Collaborate with global teams to ensure smooth data flow and timely clinical trial delivery

  • Oversee training needs and ensure compliance with all technical and soft skill requirements

  • Maintain high standards of communication and risk mitigation across clinical projects

  • Deputize for Senior Group Head when required and contribute to global strategic initiatives

  • Contribute to external stakeholder engagement and maintain Novartis's standing in industry forums


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Pharmacy, or Nursing

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in drug development, including 6+ years in clinical data management

  • At least 5 years of line management or leadership experience

  • Deep understanding of GCP, clinical trial methodology, and medical terminology

  • Proven ability to lead large cross-functional teams across multiple time zones

  • Experience working in global pharma settings, managing complex portfolios

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate under pressure

  • Knowledge of data management tools and clinical trial systems is essential
