Position Overview:
Gilead is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Oncology Research group. This role is ideal for a highly motivated scientist to contribute to the discovery and development of novel cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will lead projects, design experiments, and advance oncology drug candidates using state-of-the-art methodologies in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiation and advancement of oncology projects through in vitro and in vivo studies.

  • Nominate and validate novel cancer targets.

  • Independently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret complex experiments to elucidate target biology and drug mechanism of action.

  • Develop assays to measure pharmacodynamic markers and drug response kinetics.

  • Train and mentor junior scientists and project team members.

  • Manage multiple projects, collaborating cross-functionally with oncology, in vivo pharmacology, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry, and DMPK teams.

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance understanding of disease mechanisms.

  • Present research findings to leadership and contribute to publications, patents, and regulatory filings.

  • Promote a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related life sciences.

  • Master’s degree in related life sciences with 4+ years of relevant experience, or

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience in biotechnology or pharmaceutical research.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with 3+ years postdoctoral training in cancer cell biology and impactful publications.

  • Deep knowledge of cancer biology, oncology targets, and signaling pathways.

  • Demonstrated experience in genetic and pharmacological tools to study oncology targets.

  • Expertise in molecular and cell biology techniques: gene expression platforms, knockdown/knockout/knock-in/overexpression, flow cytometry, MSD ELISA, high-content imaging.

  • Experience with chromatin biology and in vivo tumor models is a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent record-keeping.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $146,540 – $189,640 (varies based on experience and qualifications).

  • Eligible for discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
