Position Overview:
Gilead’s Virology Department is seeking a highly motivated Scientist – Biology to join a cutting-edge research team focused on developing therapeutics that enhance host immune responses to viral infections. The successful candidate will play a key role in early-stage drug discovery, leveraging expertise in immunology and virology to design and execute innovative biological studies. This role offers growth opportunities in a fast-paced, collaborative, and resource-rich environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and optimize immune cell functional assays, cell signaling assays, and virology infectivity assays to support drug discovery programs.

  • Independently plan, execute, and analyze in vitro experiments to validate targets and test therapeutic hypotheses.

  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance assay capabilities and deepen understanding of host-virus interactions.

  • Establish and optimize preclinical models to assess immune modulation and therapeutic efficacy.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with immunology, virology, protein therapeutics, and biochemistry teams.

  • Present research findings to project teams and senior leadership; contribute to publications, patents, and regulatory filings.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and scientific literature to drive innovation.

  • Proactively propose new therapeutic concepts and project ideas.

  • Lead functional group meetings, interpret data, and provide recommendations for advancing scientific knowledge.

  • Serve as a departmental resource, mentoring colleagues on experimental design and methodology.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of experience OR

  • Master’s Degree with 4+ years of experience OR

  • PhD/PharmD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in immunology, oncology, virology, molecular/cell biology, or related field with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience.

  • Experience with cytokine profiling, immune cell characterization, and ex vivo analysis.

  • Expertise in immune cell biology, assay development, and large molecule screening.

  • Hands-on experience with primary cell culture, lymphocyte FACS sorting, magnetic bead-based isolation, and multi-color flow cytometry (10+ colors).

  • Strong background in immunology or immuno-oncology and host immune response pathways.

  • Demonstrated productivity with first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team environment with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $146,540 – $189,640 (varies based on experience and qualifications).

  • Eligible for discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
