Position Overview:
Gilead is seeking a Scientist and Lab Manager to join our Research Oncology team. This hybrid role combines hands-on scientific research with laboratory management responsibilities. The successful candidate will oversee daily lab operations, maintain safety and compliance, manage assets, and support key research activities including cell culture, assay development, and cell line banking. Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Management:

  • Oversee daily operations and strategies of the Research Oncology laboratories.

  • Ensure laboratory safety compliance in collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety teams.

  • Lead the Lab Asset Management Program (LAMP) to maintain and service laboratory instruments.

  • Organize and lead a laboratory oversight team to improve efficiency and safety.

  • Plan and execute laboratory expansion and remodeling projects, including budgeting, purchasing, and installation of capital equipment.

Scientific Support:

  • Establish and maintain cell culture protocols, expand oncology cell banks, and update laboratory information management systems (LIMs).

  • Stay current with scientific literature to implement new technologies for cell line identification and management.

  • Contribute to in vitro cell-based assay development to support oncology research projects.

  • Balance operational responsibilities with long-term goals for inventory management and process improvement.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of relevant industry experience, or

  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years industry experience with BS or 4+ years with MS (10–12+ years preferred).

  • Expertise with lab instruments: plate readers, cell counters, automated western blot systems, cell imagers.

  • Familiarity with Smartsheets, Tableau, Ariba, and SAP for reporting and purchasing.

  • Experience with cell assays, cell line generation, and banking protocols.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse, cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of SOPs, CoAs, and process documentation.

  • Critical thinking and continuous improvement mindset in a fast-paced environment.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $146,540 – $189,640 (varies based on experience and qualifications).
