Position Overview:
Gilead’s Inflammation Biology group is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to advance research in chronic fibrotic liver diseases, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). This three-year postdoctoral position offers the opportunity to lead independent research projects, uncover novel pathogenic mechanisms, identify therapeutic targets, and contribute to high-impact publications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and lead independent research projects on pathogenic mechanisms in chronic fibrotic liver disease.

  • Utilize single-cell, spatial transcriptomic, and clinical datasets to uncover mechanisms driving fibrotic niche expansion.

  • Employ mouse genetic and pharmacology approaches to investigate disease drivers and establish novel ex vivo models.

  • Design, conduct, and analyze in vitro and in vivo experiments, with mentorship support.

  • Publish research in top-tier journals and present findings at scientific conferences.

  • Collaborate across functional areas within Gilead to leverage resources and expertise.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative therapeutic concepts and strategies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or a related discipline.

  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Proficiency in mammalian cell biology and biochemistry techniques.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and imaging techniques.

  • Experience with in vitro functional assays, primary cell cultures, transfection/transduction, CRISPR/Cas9, microscopy, flow cytometry, and other immunoassays.

  • Prior experience with mouse models, tissue harvesting, and in-life procedures.

  • Familiarity with analyzing multiomic datasets, including single-cell and spatial transcriptomics.

  • Experience developing primary cell co-culture systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead focused, hypothesis-driven research projects with quality publications.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, collaborative teams.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $126,820 – $164,120 (varies based on experience and qualifications).

  • Eligible for paid time off and comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.

  • This postdoctoral position is not eligible for discretionary bonus or stock-based long-term incentives.
