About the Team:

The Antibody Team at Thermo Fisher is dedicated to the engineering and development of antibodies. The team's focus includes the design, development, purification, conjugation, and testing of antibodies in a range of immunoassay applications using cutting-edge tools and technologies. The goal is to advance product development and create specific information that promotes research use.


Job Overview:

We are seeking a Scientist III to join the Molecular Biology and Sequencing Core Facility within the Antibody Development Team. The role involves advancing innovative molecular biology techniques to enable high-throughput recombinant antibody platforms, with a primary focus on antibody development and testing.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Molecular Biology & Sequencing:

    • Lead the molecular biology and core facility efforts to develop next-generation methodologies, vector improvements, and cloning strategies for high-throughput workflows.
    • Contribute to recombinant antibody development platforms by innovating and optimizing processes.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship:

    • Provide informal leadership to a team of scientists in a matrix-style operation.
    • Mentor and train junior scientists in research design, experimental execution, data interpretation, and presentation.
    • Guide and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, operations, and business development, to meet program goals.
  • Innovation & Protocol Development:

    • Drive the conceptualization of successful protocols for effective transfer to operational teams.
    • Act as an authority in the fields of molecular biology, sequencing, and antibody development, providing valuable insights for innovation.
  • Collaboration:

    • Partner with other scientific teams and stakeholders to meet program objectives and goals.
    • Contribute to the development of new antibody technologies and processes to advance research capabilities.

Candidate Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • PhD in a relevant life sciences field with 4 to 5 years of experience, or
  • Master's Degree with 5 to 10 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of industrial experience is required.

Skills & Expertise:

  • Extensive experience with antibody development and engineering, including hybridoma, display technologies, single B cell, and other antibody platforms.
  • Broad knowledge of molecular biology, vector design, next-generation cloning, miniaturization strategies for high-throughput gene-to-protein processes, and sequencing technologies (Sanger and next-gen sequencing).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for technical challenges.
  • Proven track record in establishing new protocols and workflows in antibody development and molecular biology.
  • Leadership experience in managing core facilities or sequencing operations is a plus.
  • Experience in mentoring and training junior scientists.
  • Authorship of peer-reviewed publications with post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Additional Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and statistical software (e.g., Prism).
  • Strong statistical knowledge and ability to analyze data effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced research environment with flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for peer and leadership interactions.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safety Standards.
  • Exposure to cold rooms/freezers (-22°C), fluctuating temperatures, loud noises (equipment/machinery), strong odors (chemicals, biological products), and hazardous materials.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs).
