Position Overview

The Medication Reconciliation Technician is responsible for obtaining and documenting patient medication histories, prescription plan coverage, and clinical information to support prescription processing. This compliance-critical role ensures adherence to corporate, divisional, and regulatory requirements while covering weekend staffing needs. The position is based onsite in Knoxville, TN.


Work Schedule

  • Rotating schedule: one week on, one week off.

  • Weekdays: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

  • Weekends: Saturday–Sunday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM


Key Responsibilities

  • Document patient medication histories in electronic medical records.

  • Create and maintain patient profiles in the pharmacy information system.

  • Enter prescription plan information to process and adjudicate prescriptions.

  • Input new patient prescription data accurately for pharmacist verification.

  • Address insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues by coordinating with insurance providers, pharmacists, and patients.

  • Support ambulatory pharmacy business goals and performance metrics.

  • Retrieve and prepare medications for pharmacist review and verification.

  • Prepare inventory reports and manage stock placement.

  • Answer and triage inbound telephone calls to appropriate staff members.

  • Review adjudicated prescription claims for reimbursement accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

  • Assist pharmacists with therapeutic consultations.

  • Intervene with Pharmacy Benefit Managers to resolve plan-specific issues.

  • Manage and monitor ambulatory dispensing robotic technology.

  • Deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients as part of the concierge prescription program.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Minimum two years of progressively responsible ambulatory pharmacy experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Certification: National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) or equivalent; state pharmacy certification acceptable if core competencies meet or exceed national standards.

  • Skills:

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.

    • Ability to work accurately under time and volume constraints.

    • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

    • Knowledge of pharmaceutical products, services, and drug interactions.

    • Strong organizational, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
