About the Role

AstraZeneca is seeking a Statistical Programming Associate Director to join the Oncology Biometrics Programming team. This leadership role focuses on overseeing statistical programming activities across clinical development projects, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of programming outputs for clinical study reports, regulatory submissions, commercialization, and scientific data utilization.

As a senior leader, you will guide programming teams, contribute to strategy and process improvements, and support innovation in statistical methodologies, ultimately impacting AstraZeneca’s mission to eliminate cancer as a cause of death.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Management

  • Provide leadership and direction for statistical programming activities at the study/project level.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while ensuring quality, timelines, and regulatory compliance.

  • Mentor and guide programming teams to enhance technical skills and career development.

Statistical Programming & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee SAS programming activities, ensuring advanced technical standards are met.

  • Ensure compliance with CDISC standards and industry best practices.

  • Review and validate programming outputs for clinical study reports, regulatory submissions, and commercial projects.

Regulatory & Scientific Collaboration

  • Support regulatory submissions by providing technical expertise and documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to utilize clinical data for scientific decision-making.

  • Maintain awareness of evolving regulatory requirements and implement changes as needed.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Contribute to the development and optimization of programming processes and workflows.

  • Encourage adoption of innovative programming tools, methods, and automation solutions.

  • Promote quality, efficiency, and consistency across all statistical programming outputs.


Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience in statistical programming within clinical development.

  • Advanced SAS programming expertise.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CDISC standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Strong project management and leadership skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience leading multi-study projects in oncology or other therapeutic areas.

  • Knowledge of emerging statistical programming tools and methods.

  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and innovation in programming workflows.
