Position Overview

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician supports patient care by obtaining clinical and prescription coverage information, preparing medication, and ensuring accurate prescription processing. This compliance-critical role requires adherence to all regulatory, corporate, and division-level standards while providing support for evenings and weekend shifts at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

Location: Onsite – Methodist Community Pharmacy, Dallas, TX
Schedule: Evenings and weekends only


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain patient profiles in the pharmacy information system.

  • Enter prescription plan information for processing and adjudication.

  • Input all new patient prescription data accurately.

  • Address insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues by communicating with insurers, patients, and pharmacists.

  • Support business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.

  • Prepare and retrieve medications for pharmacist review and verification.

  • Generate inventory reports and ensure stock is submitted, received, and organized.

  • Answer and triage inbound calls to the appropriate staff members.

  • Assist in reviewing and handling adjudicated prescription claims, resolving reimbursement and co-pay issues.

  • Provide pharmacists with information required for therapeutic consults.

  • Intervene with Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) companies to resolve plan and patient-specific issues.

  • Monitor and maintain ambulatory dispensing robotic technology.

  • Deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients as part of the concierge prescription program.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible ambulatory pharmacy experience.

  • Certification: Pharmacy Technician certification from a national organization (PTCB or equivalent); state certification accepted if equivalent to national standards.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently under time and volume constraints.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability.

  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services, and drug interactions.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Analytical skills and accuracy in record-keeping and data entry.
