About the Role

AstraZeneca is seeking a Local Case Intake Senior Team Manager to lead the Japan regulatory case intake team within the Global Business Services (GBS) Patient Safety function. This pivotal role involves overseeing the intake, processing, and reporting of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) for Japan, ensuring compliance with local and global pharmacovigilance regulations.

The role requires strong leadership, fluency in Japanese and English, and the ability to manage and mentor a team in a fast-paced, high-quality environment. You will act as a key liaison between local and global teams, ensuring the smooth execution of case intake operations and continuous process improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a local case intake team, providing guidance, training, and performance management.

  • Set priorities, allocate resources, and oversee project initiatives to achieve operational objectives.

  • Motivate staff in a multicultural environment while fostering collaboration and professional growth.

Case Intake & Compliance

  • Oversee the intake, validation, processing, and reporting of ICSRs in compliance with AstraZeneca and regulatory standards.

  • Monitor case intake metrics, prepare KPI reports, and identify areas for process optimization.

  • Act as an escalation point for complex cases and Health Authority interactions.

  • Ensure audit and inspection readiness for local case intake processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison between local and global pharmacovigilance teams.

  • Communicate changes in local and global processes to ensure alignment.

  • Participate in ad-hoc global, regional, or local case handling projects.

Regulatory & Process Expertise

  • Stay updated on local and global pharmacovigilance regulations and implement best practices.

  • Contribute to process improvements, quality assurance, and operational excellence.


Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Pharmacy, Medical, or Life Sciences.

  • 2–5 years of team management experience.

  • Fluency in Japanese (JLPT N2 or higher) and English (B1 Threshold, CEFR).

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Ability to manage priorities, resources, and projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Advanced degree (MBA or PhD) in a relevant field.

  • In-depth pharmacovigilance knowledge and experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Familiarity with current pharmacovigilance and regulatory developments.
