About the Role

Alexion-AstraZeneca Rare Disease Unit is seeking a Director – Real World Data Science to lead statistical applications for rare disease registries and longitudinal observational studies. This role is central to generating regulatory-compliant real-world evidence (RWE) to support access to innovative therapies.

You will provide statistical expertise in disease registries, mentor junior statisticians, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure robust analyses that meet global regulatory standards. This position is ideal for professionals passionate about transforming real-world data into actionable insights that impact patient outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Statistical Leadership

  • Design and implement advanced statistical analyses using data from disease registries, patient registries, natural history studies, EMR, and claims data.

  • Develop and validate statistical methodologies for real-world evidence generation and regulatory submissions.

  • Prepare regulatory-quality statistical reports and clinical study reports based on registry analyses.

Regulatory Collaboration

  • Support Alexion in regulatory interactions, ensuring registry-derived analyses align with regulatory strategy.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies to facilitate approvals.

  • Ensure compliance with ICH guidelines, FDA RWE framework, EMA registry guidance, and other regulatory standards.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor junior statisticians and data scientists in regulatory-compliant registry data analysis.

  • Provide technical guidance on best practices in statistical programming and data interpretation.

Innovation & Process Improvement

  • Contribute to methodological improvements in real-world evidence generation.

  • Apply advanced statistical and programming techniques (R, SAS, SQL) to enhance data quality and analytic efficiency.


Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field with ≥6 years industry experience; or Master’s degree with ≥10 years industry experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or consulting.

  • Strong expertise in statistical applications for registry-based studies and real-world evidence generation.

  • Experience in regulatory submissions and familiarity with global rare disease regulatory frameworks.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on programming experience in R, SAS, and SQL.

  • Proven track record of successful regulatory submissions incorporating registry data.

  • Expertise in multi-disciplinary, regulatory-focused statistical projects.

  • Strong knowledge of ICH guidelines and global regulatory standards.
