Role Overview

Syneos Health is seeking an Executive Director, Strategic Business Development to lead enterprise-level growth initiatives across global biopharmaceutical clients. This executive role is responsible for driving long-term revenue expansion through strategic account planning, global partnerships, and complex deal execution across the clinical development lifecycle.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in the pharmaceutical and clinical research industry, a proven track record in enterprise sales, and the ability to navigate sophisticated procurement environments, including preferred provider agreements and master service agreements (MSAs). This position partners closely with cross-functional leaders across therapeutic strategy, operations, legal, finance, and delivery to execute client-centric growth strategies aligned with Syneos Health’s global commercial objectives.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Development & Enterprise Growth

  • Lead global business development activities across a portfolio of high-value, enterprise-level biopharmaceutical accounts

  • Identify, evaluate, and secure strategic opportunities including preferred provider agreements, MSAs, and long-term strategic alliances

  • Develop and execute multi-year strategic account growth plans aligned with organizational revenue and market expansion goals

  • Drive enterprise-level sales growth through complex, consultative sales engagements

Client Strategy & Executive Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior and executive-level client stakeholders

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers and influencers across global pharmaceutical organizations

  • Act as an internal client advocate, sharing insights on client culture, priorities, and partnership expectations

  • Educate clients on Syneos Health’s differentiated value proposition across clinical and commercial service offerings

Cross-Functional Leadership & Solution Development

  • Collaborate with therapeutic strategy, operations, delivery, marketing, legal, and finance teams to co-create tailored client solutions

  • Lead the development of high-impact proposals, RFP responses, executive presentations, and deal strategies

  • Orchestrate cross-functional resources to support account expansion, renewals, and next-phase opportunities

Sales Planning, Forecasting & Market Intelligence

  • Develop and implement annual and quarterly sales plans, including forecasting, objectives, and performance reviews

  • Prioritize accounts and territories using data-driven insights on market potential and client opportunity

  • Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and evolving client needs to refine engagement strategies

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date account, pipeline, and activity records in CRM platforms such as Salesforce

Industry Representation

  • Represent Syneos Health at client meetings, industry conferences, and professional events

  • Enhance brand visibility while cultivating new business opportunities across the biopharmaceutical ecosystem


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field required

    • Graduate degree preferred

  • Experience:

    • Significant experience in strategic sales, global business development, or enterprise client relationship management

    • Extensive experience within the clinical trial and pharmaceutical industry (required)

    • Proven success leading preferred provider pursuits and negotiating complex master service agreements

    • Demonstrated ability to manage and grow global accounts within large, matrixed organizations

  • Industry & Technical Expertise:

    • Deep understanding of clinical research service models, including Full-Service, FSP, and RWLP

    • Strong knowledge of the full drug development lifecycle

    • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace

  • Core Competencies:

    • Executive-level communication, presentation, and negotiation skills

    • Strong consultative selling approach with solution-oriented mindset

    • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and data-driven decision-making capabilities

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective in fast-paced, complex environments

    • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across functions

  • Travel Requirement:

    • Willingness to travel approximately 60% for client engagements, internal meetings, and industry conferences


Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: USD 121,600 – 266,134
Base salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location. Total compensation may include performance-based incentives and commissions.
