🎯 Role Purpose

The Clinical Research Physician – Incretins supports the Diabetes and Obesity Business Unit – Global Medical Affairs in:

  • Strategic planning for launch and commercialization

  • Enhancing customer experience (patients, HCPs, payers)

  • Collaborating with global Development teams, Translational Medicine, and Clinical Pharmacology

  • Overseeing activities across the entire drug development spectrum (early-phase to marketed products)

  • Ensuring all activities comply with FDA, ICH, GCPs, company standards, and medical vision


🧠 Primary Responsibilities

1. Business / Customer Support (Pre- and Post-Launch)

  • Plan and support symposia, advisory boards, and meetings with HCPs

  • Support medical information associates in preparation and review of medical materials

  • Train medical personnel (medical liaisons, health outcomes staff)

  • Prepare or review scientific responses for customer or media queries

  • Support data analysis, slide sets, and publications (abstracts, posters, manuscripts)

  • Build relationships with external experts, thought leaders, and professional societies

  • Support congress activities (presentations, booths, advisory meetings)

  • Contribute to Clinical Trial Registry reporting

2. Clinical Planning

  • Collaborate with Clinical Research Scientists, statisticians, health outcomes, and investigators for protocol and data collection development

  • Participate in investigator identification and selection

  • Ensure administrative and ethical approvals for study initiation and conduct

  • Provide scientific training and guidance to investigators and study personnel

  • Monitor patient safety and manage adverse event tracking

  • Review IIT proposals and publications

  • Contribute to global alignment of phase 3b/4 and early-phase clinical studies

3. Regulatory Support

  • Stay updated on clinical practice trends, access, and competitive products

  • Train clinical study teams scientifically

  • Serve as protocol and scientific consultant

  • Explore extramural scientific opportunities

  • Attend and contribute to medical congresses and scientific symposia

4. General Responsibilities

  • Act as an ambassador for patients and the Lilly brand

  • Apply expertise in diabetes pathophysiology, clinical management, medical affairs, data dissemination, and real-world evidence


🎓 Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor (board eligible or certified) in Endocrinology or Diabetology

  • Comparable clinical training acceptable for foreign graduates (meeting LCME requirements)

  • U.S.-trained physicians: board eligibility/certification required


🛠 Preferences

  • Pharmaceutical experience in medical affairs and/or development

  • Experience in obesity disease state

  • Clinical experience in diabetes

  • Knowledge of drug development process

  • Ability to balance scientific and business priorities

  • Leadership, communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally

  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)


💰 Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $198,000 – $330,000

  • Eligible for company bonus
