🧬 About the Role

The Associate Medical Director – Rare Hematology will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping Medical Affairs strategies for rare hematology products and the development pipeline.
This includes guiding scientific communication, supporting commercialization, ensuring medical compliance, and strengthening cross-functional collaborations across R&D, Regulatory, and Commercial teams.


🎯 Key Responsibilities

🔹 Strategic Leadership

  • Define and refine the Medical Affairs strategy for Rare Hematology.

  • Build a vision and roadmap for the future of Medical Affairs within the therapeutic area.

  • Develop the Medical Affairs organizational structure, including recruitment of Medical Science Liaison (MSL) teams.

  • Ensure systems, processes, and standards are established for effective Medical Affairs operations.

🔹 Medical Affairs Execution

  • Lead and manage the Medical Team supporting rare hematology products and late-phase pipeline.

  • Support pricing and reimbursement efforts in collaboration with Market Access.

  • Provide guidance to Medical and Promotional Review Committees for compliant, accurate content.

  • Drive the Global Publication Plan—leading the North America strategy and ensuring data dissemination through publications and conferences.

  • Collaborate with R&D and Commercial teams to support pre- and post-launch activities.

  • Ensure accuracy and scientific integrity of promotional materials and sales training content.

🔹 External Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), advocacy groups, advisory board members, and payer organizations.

  • Lead and execute Phase IIIb, IV clinical trials, and registry studies.

  • Partner with Corporate Development for pipeline assessment and scientific due diligence in business development opportunities.

🔹 Organizational Development

  • Attract and develop top talent for Medical Affairs and related functions.

  • Leverage technology and innovation to reshape the role of the MSL and medical engagement model.

  • Drive an entrepreneurial and compliance-driven culture that delivers measurable business value.


🎓 Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • MD, PhD, or PharmD with at least 8 years of experience in Medical Affairs within the biopharma industry.

  • Proven leadership in Medical Affairs strategy and execution.

  • Experience in clinical trial design (especially Phase III–IV).

  • Track record in KOL development, field team training, and scientific communication.

  • Demonstrated success collaborating with Commercial and R&D teams.

  • Strong communication, influencing, and scientific storytelling skills.

  • Excellent business acumen and ability to operate in fast-paced, entrepreneurial settings.

Preferred

  • Experience in rare diseases and hematology.

  • Ability to evaluate pipelines for business development opportunities.

  • Exposure to commercial functions or hybrid science-business roles.

  • Critical thinker with the ability to simplify complex science for non-scientific audiences.
