Job Overview:

The Scientist III, Synthetics Laboratory, is responsible for the design and development of cost-effective synthetic routes to produce USP Reference Standard candidate materials and API impurities. The role involves conducting literature searches, planning and executing the synthesis of target molecules, and ensuring adherence to quality management systems (QMS) and lab safety practices. This position also requires effective communication with the team, progress updates, and completion of assigned tasks within specified timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Literature Search & Synthesis Design:

    • Perform literature searches related to assigned projects using various scientific databases.

    • Design synthetic routes for target molecules and prepare project proposals, including cost estimates.

    • Procure raw materials and reagents for synthesis projects.

  • Synthesis & Purification:

    • Perform reactions in small and large scales for target compound synthesis.

    • Purify compounds using techniques like crystallization, column chromatography, and advanced flash purification systems.

    • Troubleshoot synthesis and purification issues.

    • Contribute to complex projects with innovative methodologies.

  • Analytical Interpretation & Documentation:

    • Interpret analytical data (IR, NMR, Mass Spectra, Elemental analysis, etc.) of synthesized compounds.

    • Document all experiments according to QMS guidelines.

    • Ensure calibration of equipment as per schedule and perform periodic checks on equipment.

  • Project Management & Safety Compliance:

    • Ensure projects are completed within timelines and customer requirements are met.

    • Strictly adhere to lab safety norms.

    • Communicate within the team and cross-functional teams for project progress.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with 1-3 years of post-doctoral/industrial experience in API Process R&D/CDMO/CRO, or

    • M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry with 6-8 years of industrial experience in API Process R&D/CDMO/CRO.

  • Skills & Expertise:

    • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and interpretation of spectral data (IR, NMR, HPLC, Mass Spectrometry, Elemental analysis).

    • Ability to design, optimize, and develop synthetic processes for target molecules/APIs.

    • Hands-on experience in process development of diverse chemical classes of APIs/NCEs on lab scale.

    • Excellent troubleshooting skills in synthesis and purification of target compounds.

Additional Desired Preferences:

  • Knowledge of organic reactions and experience handling sensitive chemicals/reagents.

  • Track record of patents/publications in synthetic organic chemistry/process development.

  • Exposure to GMP/GLP environments and documentation procedures.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a passion for quality.
