Overview
Sanofi is seeking a Principal Scientific Writer to lead the creation of complex scientific and medical content across multiple therapeutic areas. This role is ideal for an experienced professional with deep expertise in medical communication, publication planning, and medical education content development. The Principal Scientific Writer will operate independently, manage multiple projects, and provide strategic input into communication plans while mentoring senior and junior writers.
About the Role
As part of Sanofi Business Operations (BO), you will support global medical, HEVA, and commercial functions by delivering high-quality scientific content. You will serve as a subject matter expert in medical communications, working closely with stakeholders to ensure publication excellence and adherence to compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Publication Management
Develop complex, high-quality publication and medical education materials (manuscripts, abstracts, posters, slide decks).
Manage the end-to-end content development process, including documentation, review, and approval using PromoMats/iEnvision.
Implement publication plans and deliverables across multiple franchises or therapeutic areas.
Leverage advanced tools and techniques to enhance content effectiveness and training delivery.
Leadership & Mentorship
Coach and review content developed by senior and junior writers.
Share expertise to strengthen the scientific ecosystem within the team.
Partner with team leads and global leaders to support individual development plans.
Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with scientific communication teams across regions to identify publication needs.
Engage with medical departments to develop customized and impactful deliverables.
Provide strategic recommendations for content development and process improvements.
Process & Compliance
Conduct comprehensive publication-need analyses to align with medical communication strategy.
Ensure adherence to SOPs, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines for multiple concurrent initiatives.
Experience Required
9+ years of experience in medical communications, publication, or medical education within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or academic sectors.
4+ years of leadership or mentorship experience preferred.
Proven expertise in therapeutic area/domain knowledge, scientific content creation, publication submission, and project management.
Technical Skills
Advanced knowledge of medical writing, publication standards, and medical education content.
Familiarity with publication management systems and digital content platforms.
Ability to drive process improvements and implement innovative content solutions.
Soft Skills
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Strong mentoring and team development capabilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across global teams.
Education
Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or related scientific discipline.
