As part of this mission, Gilead is seeking motivated students for the Biology Research Internship Program.

This role provides an opportunity to work directly on meaningful scientific projects while gaining real-world research experience at a leading biopharmaceutical company.


Position Summary

The Research Biology Intern will contribute to projects that support the discovery and characterization of targets in autoimmune and related diseases. Interns will gain hands-on laboratory training, exposure to cross-functional teams, and opportunities to present scientific findings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Study the biological role of novel therapeutic targets in autoimmune diseases.

  • Learn and perform essential laboratory techniques, including:

    • Cell culture

    • Biochemical assays

    • CRISPR gene editing

    • Flow cytometry

    • ELISA and cytokine-based assay development

  • Review published scientific literature and apply insights to ongoing research.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and present project updates in team meetings.

  • Deliver a final presentation summarizing internship outcomes and research findings.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years

  • Minimum GPA: 2.8

  • Authorization to work in the United States (no future sponsorship except CPT/OPT through university)

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, PharmD, or PhD program at an accredited U.S. institution

  • Rising sophomore, junior, senior, graduate, or doctoral student

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the Fall Semester following the internship

  • Availability to complete a 10–12 week internship between May and August

  • Willingness to relocate and work onsite if required


Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree focus: Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work independently and in team environments

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage fast timelines


Experience Required (in Years)

  • 0–1 year of laboratory experience through coursework, academic labs, or previous internships

  • 0–1 year of experience with techniques such as cell culture, ELISA, or CRISPR (can be academic)

  • 0–2 years of scientific research exposure through academic programs or project work

  • No prior industry experience is required


Compensation and Benefits

  • Expected hourly rate: USD 19.00 – USD 55.00, depending on education level and location

  • Benefits may include paid company holidays, sick time, and housing stipends for eligible interns
