This internship offers practical, hands-on experience in Corporate Affairs and Legal – Intellectual Property, providing exposure to real-world legal and regulatory processes in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.


Role Overview

As a Gilead Legal & Corporate Affairs Intern, you will support the Legal Department in Intellectual Property (IP) and related areas. This role provides exposure to legal research, IP portfolio management, compliance, contracts, and cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Interns gain valuable experience in the dynamic pharmaceutical legal environment while contributing to high-impact projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Intellectual Property (IP) group, including clearance work, filing, prosecution, and dispute resolution.

  • Draft, review, and manage contracts with guidance from in-house attorneys, assisting with due diligence.

  • Conduct legal research and analysis; draft memos and provide recommendations on business-relevant legal issues.

  • Attend meetings with internal clients and external stakeholders, providing legal support under supervision.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Corporate Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Litigation & Investigations, and business partners.

  • Assist in preparing and delivering trainings on contracts, IP, and legal processes.

  • Participate in final presentations summarizing internship contributions and project outcomes.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 18 years

  • Minimum GPA of 2.8

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or eligible through CPT/OPT

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, JD, or PhD program at an accredited U.S. university or college

  • Rising Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate/Doctoral student

  • Full-time enrollment in the Fall semester following the internship

  • Ability to complete a 10–12 week consecutive internship between May and August

  • Willingness to relocate and work onsite for the internship duration


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred degree: BS/BA and entering the second year of JD program

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, and professional integrity

  • Familiarity with Intellectual Property concepts, contracts, and regulated industries (pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or legal services)


Experience Required

  • 0–1 year of academic or internship experience in legal research, Intellectual Property, or corporate affairs

  • Exposure to contract review, compliance, or IP portfolio management is advantageous

  • Experience with MS Office tools for documentation, reporting, and presentations


Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Range: USD 19.00 – USD 55.00

  • Actual compensation may vary depending on education level and geographic location

  • Benefits include paid company holidays, sick time, and housing stipends for eligible interns
