Role Overview

The Inpatient Graveyard IVAS Pharmacist plays a critical role in overnight sterile compounding and inpatient pharmacy operations, ensuring the safe, accurate, and timely preparation of intravenous medications. This position supports essential after-hours clinical services, directly contributing to patient safety and continuity of care.

Working under general supervision, the pharmacist is responsible for end-to-end IV admixture services, strict adherence to regulatory standards, and clinical verification of medication orders during overnight operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, compound, and verify sterile intravenous medications in compliance with USP <797> and <800>, California Board of Pharmacy regulations, and institutional policies.

  • Perform full-scope IVAS (Intravenous Admixture Services) functions during overnight shifts.

  • Evaluate medication orders and patient profiles for appropriateness, accuracy, interactions, and safety.

  • Ensure strict adherence to aseptic technique and sterile compounding best practices.

  • Meet defined production timelines and ensure all IV medications are completed by required deadlines.

  • Support inpatient clinical pharmacy operations during overnight hours, including urgent and time-sensitive medication needs.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:

    • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure:

    • Active California Pharmacist License (required).

  • Experience Required:

    • Minimum 1–3 years of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

    • Hands-on experience with sterile IV compounding and IVAS operations strongly preferred.

    • Familiarity with USP <797>, USP <800>, and hospital pharmacy workflows required.

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.

    • Ability to work independently during overnight shifts.

    • Excellent clinical judgment and medication order evaluation skills.

    • Effective communication and documentation abilities.


Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Schedule: Overnight | 7 days on, 7 days off (rotational weekends and holidays included)

  • Hourly Pay Range: USD $90.64 – $112.68

    • Union-represented, step-based salary dependent on years of experience

  • Employment Duration: Indefinite / Career Appointment
