Job Overview

Optum, a global leader in technology-enabled healthcare, is seeking an experienced Inpatient Care Management Nurse (RN) to support clinical decision-making, utilization management, and care optimization for inpatient members across the United States. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and concurrent reviews of inpatient cases using evidence-based criteria such as InterQual

  • Collaborate with facility care teams to gather clinical data and review plans of care

  • Work closely with Optum Medical Directors on utilization management decisions

  • Identify appropriate levels of care and support discharge planning

  • Review and interpret clinical information to resolve delays in care

  • Engage in interdisciplinary discussions to enhance care progression strategies

  • Refer complex cases to Medical Directors or downstream partners as required

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards

  • Participate in team meetings, audits, and continuous improvement discussions

  • Accurately document case management activities according to operational guidelines


Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

  • No nights or holidays; occasional weekends based on business needs

  • Fully remote position (must comply with Optum Telecommuter Policy)


Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted RN license in state of residence

  • 3+ years of clinical nursing experience in Acute Inpatient, Emergency Department, SNF/AIR/LTAC, or Urgent Care settings

  • Experience in acute, long-term, or rehabilitative care

  • Strong computer proficiency (Windows, Excel, Outlook, clinical platforms)

  • Secured home office space with reliable high-speed internet


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

  • Compact RN license

  • 2+ years of case management experience

  • 1+ years of utilization review experience using evidence-based guidelines (InterQual preferred)

  • Managed care experience

  • Experience in discharge planning


Experience Level

  • Minimum: 3 years clinical nursing experience

  • Preferred: 3–7 years combined experience in clinical care, case management, utilization review, or managed care


Compensation

Applicable to residents of CA, CO, CT, HI, MD, NV, NJ, NY, RI, WA, and Washington, D.C.:

  • Annual Salary Range: USD 58,300 – USD 114,300

  • Compensation is based on location, experience, certifications, and education
