Coder 2 Inpatient – Remote (Boca Raton, FL, United States)

Overview

Omega Healthcare is seeking an experienced Coder 2 Inpatient to support accurate medical coding for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records. This role ensures compliant coding practices, supports quality reporting, and contributes to accurate reimbursement processes. Candidates must demonstrate strong expertise in medical coding standards, documentation review, and DRG/APC guidelines.

This is a remote full-time position with minimal travel requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review, abstract, and code clinical documentation across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, pro-fee, and specialty medical records.

  • Assign accurate principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, and DRG/APC codes following established guidelines.

  • Enter coded data into multiple software systems and encoders, ensuring adherence to coding standards and client requirements.

  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, HIPAA, and accreditation guidelines.

  • Analyze health records for completeness and accuracy to support reimbursement, reporting, and quality initiatives.

  • Track and maintain coding productivity and meet required performance benchmarks, including a 95 percent quality rating.

  • Identify and code procedures performed by physicians and integrate data into appropriate billing systems.

  • Collaborate professionally with cross-functional teams while maintaining strict confidentiality of patient records.

  • Proficiency in medical coding software, encoders, and standard office applications.

  • Thorough knowledge of coding guidelines from AHIMA, AMA, AHA, CMS, and JCAHO.

  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and coding compliance standards.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with consistency and accuracy.


Work Environment

  • Fully remote position

  • Standard office hours, Monday to Friday (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)

  • Occasional extended hours may be required

  • Minimal travel (up to 5 percent)


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing documentation

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs

  • Standard visual focus required for reviewing electronic medical records


Required Education and Experience

  • Completion of an AAPC or AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program

  • 2 to 4 years of proven production coding experience in acute care and professional fee environments

  • Mandatory Certifications: CPC, COC, CIC, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P

  • Must meet client-specific credential requirements such as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
