Role Overview

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert role responsible for engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs), thought leaders (TLs), and healthcare stakeholders in the field of Haematology and Oncology.

The role focuses on scientific exchange, clinical insights, and medical strategy execution to support appropriate use of BMS medicines and advancement of clinical science. The MSL spends approximately 60–70% of time in the field engaging with external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

1. External Scientific Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with:

    • Thought Leaders (TLs)

    • Healthcare Professionals (HCPs)

    • Access stakeholders (e.g., Army, Railways, CGHS)

  • Conduct scientific discussions on:

    • Disease areas

    • Product data

    • Clinical trials

    • Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR)

  • Respond to unsolicited medical and scientific queries in a compliant, evidence-based manner.


2. Field Medical Strategy Execution

  • Develop and execute medical interaction plans for assigned territories.

  • Align activities with overall medical and therapeutic area strategy.

  • Conduct 1:1 meetings, group presentations, and virtual engagements.

  • Continuously update knowledge of disease area, treatment trends, and competitive landscape.


3. Medical Insight Generation

  • Gather insights from HCPs and Thought Leaders.

  • Report key medical and scientific insights to internal teams.

  • Support strategic decision-making in medical and commercial functions.


4. Clinical Trial Support

  • Support identification and engagement of clinical trial sites.

  • Assist in patient recruitment activities for interventional and non-interventional studies.

  • Provide feasibility insights based on field knowledge.

  • Support investigator-initiated studies (IIS/ISR) processes.


5. Medical Education & Internal Support

  • Provide scientific training to internal teams:

    • Commercial

    • Regulatory

    • Pharmacovigilance

    • Market Access

  • Support promotional and educational meetings with scientific content.

  • Evaluate and support external speakers in BMS-sponsored events.


6. Pharmacovigilance & Safety Reporting

  • Collect and report adverse events (AEs/SAEs) as per SOPs.

  • Ensure compliance with pharmacovigilance and safety reporting requirements.


7. Patient & Advocacy Support

  • Support patient education initiatives.

  • Collaborate with patient advocacy groups.

  • Assist in development of patient-facing educational materials.


8. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with:

    • Clinical Development

    • Regulatory Affairs

    • Market Access

    • Commercial teams

    • HEOR teams

  • Contribute to integrated medical planning and execution.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Medical degree required:

    • MBBS / MD (preferred)


Experience

  • 1–2 years of field medical affairs experience preferred

  • Experience in:

    • Oncology / Haematology (strongly preferred)

    • Clinical research or scientific environment
