Job Overview:

Drug Safety Associates are responsible for ensuring that drugs and other pharmaceutical products are safe to use. They work primarily in laboratory settings, testing new drugs or reviewing existing ones to ensure they meet quality standards. This role involves monitoring the effects of drugs on human subjects, reviewing adverse event reports, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Testing:
    • Test new drugs or review existing ones to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Monitoring Drug Effects:
    • Observe patients in clinical trials or perform tests on animals to determine substance interactions.
  • Reviewing Safety Information:
    • Review adverse event reports, safety data sheets, and physician advisories to identify potential risks.
  • Compliance and Site Visits:
    • Conduct site visits to observe distribution processes and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Clinical Research:
    • Perform clinical research studies involving human subjects according to ethical and safety standards.
  • Regulatory Monitoring:
    • Monitor compliance with drug licensing laws and regulations.
  • Pharmaceutical Handling:
    • Ensure safe handling of pharmaceuticals by maintaining proper storage conditions.
  • Reporting:
    • Prepare reports about drug inventories and other pertinent information for management.
  • Workflow Improvement:
    • Suggest methods to improve workflow processes within the pharmacy department.
  • Medication Administration:
    • Administer medications to individuals according to established protocols.
  • Investigation Assistance:
    • Assist in the investigation of medication errors or issues with drug labeling or packaging.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a scientific discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Healthcare, or a technology-related field.

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel and/or relocate to work in unanticipated locations throughout the US.
  • No telecommuting available.
