The Opportunity

Location: Pleasanton, CA – Heart Failure Division (Abbott Medical Devices)

Abbott Medical Devices is a global leader in technologies for the management and treatment of Heart Failure. We are seeking a Director, Clinical Insights Development to join our Global Clinical and Regulatory Affairs team.

This role will focus on developing strategies to generate clinical insights from large internal and external datasets to advance personalized diagnostics and therapeutic approaches for heart failure. The Director will also lead the creation and growth of a team of scientists specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Insights & Strategy

  • Develop and implement strategies for generating clinical insights aligned with Heart Failure Division business goals.

Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Work closely with cross-functional internal teams (R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, Reimbursement).

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including researchers, scientists, and clinician key opinion leaders.

  • Partner with academic institutions, healthcare providers, and other external entities for data access and research.

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a team of experts in clinical data analysis, engineering, and science.

  • Guide development of ML/AI algorithms to advance understanding of heart failure disease progression.

Advanced Analytics & Modeling

  • Design, develop, and optimize predictive models using ML to address complex clinical problems and improve patient outcomes.

Infrastructure & Governance

  • Collaborate with IT to establish computational infrastructure for advanced data science.

  • Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy regulations, and professional standards.

Innovation & Industry Impact

  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in ML/AI and implement relevant technologies.

  • Build and maintain an external reputation as a thought leader through industry presentations, panels, and peer-reviewed publications.


Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in medical/scientific field OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.

Preferred

  • 10+ years of experience developing advanced ML/AI algorithms.

  • Proven management experience in building and leading data science teams.

  • Experience working in highly regulated medical device environments.

  • Global experience.


Compensation

  • Base Pay Range: $169,300 – $338,700 (may vary by location).
