Position Overview: Director – Biostatistics (LCCI, Bengaluru)

The Director – Biostatistics will provide strategic, technical, and operational leadership across Lilly’s Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) organization. This role will guide the development, implementation, and oversight of advanced statistical strategies, ensuring alignment with global R&D objectives and business needs.

The Director will lead a high-performing team, build advanced analytical capabilities, strengthen global collaborations, and ensure robust, compliant statistical deliverables across the Lilly portfolio. This position requires a strong scientific background, leadership maturity, and the ability to influence across a global matrix.


Key Responsibilities

1. Enabling Statistical Deliverables

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for GSS operations at LCCI.

  • Drive productivity, innovation, and continuous improvement across global statistical functions.

  • Partner with GSS leadership to plan, forecast, and manage resources for portfolio execution.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and strengthen collaboration within R&D.

2. Statistical and Analytical Capability Development

  • Build, supervise, and develop a technically strong team with diverse statistical expertise.

  • Establish advanced analytical capabilities, ensuring alignment with emerging industry trends.

  • Foster deep therapeutic and scientific expertise to support business needs.

  • Facilitate team engagement with external academic and professional bodies.

  • Leverage national and global networks to address complex scientific questions across drug development phases.

3. Site Leadership and Partnership

  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration with local and global teams, including LRL and GSS hubs.

  • Contribute to site strategy, organizational effectiveness, and operational excellence.

  • Partner closely with GSS teams in Cork and global leadership to assess opportunities and improve efficiency.

4. Enterprise Leadership

  • Demonstrate strong business acumen and agility to address evolving portfolio needs.

  • Maintain awareness of external scientific and regulatory developments and represent GSS in internal and external forums.

  • Ensure fiscal responsibility and adherence to regulations, guidelines, and best practices.

  • Promote shared learning, standardized processes, and performance excellence across teams.

5. People Leadership and Development

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and career development for direct reports and extended teams.

  • Recruit and retain a highly skilled statistical and analytical workforce.

  • Build an inclusive, innovative organizational culture that supports professional growth.

  • Develop team expertise in drug development, therapeutic areas, strategic planning, and leadership.


Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics is mandatory.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of industry experience in biostatistics, statistical sciences, or related domains.

  • At least 7 years of supervisory experience, including leadership of leaders; 5 years in senior leadership roles preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting global drug development processes, regulatory expectations, and statistical excellence.

Technical & Leadership Skills

  • Broad understanding of clinical development, statistical methodologies, and regulatory standards.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans across people, processes, and technology.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence global stakeholders across a matrixed organization.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate issues, propose solutions, and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Demonstrated success in leading and motivating global teams toward shared objectives.
