Position Summary

The Vice President, Medical Science and Strategy (Pediatric) is a senior medical and strategic leader responsible for driving clinical development excellence and business growth within the pediatric therapeutic area. The role requires deep pediatric and regulatory experience, strategic insight, and a proven record of leading development programs from discovery through registration.

This position plays a pivotal role in maintaining and expanding PPD’s industry-leading position in pediatric drug development across therapeutic areas.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic and Business Development Leadership

  • Provide high-quality scientific and strategic input into RFPs (Requests for Proposals), covering:

    • Development strategy and regulatory considerations

    • Drug class and safety considerations

    • Protocol and indication design

    • Internal team education and training

    • Engagement with client physicians and medical leaders during bid defenses

  • Identify new business opportunities within the pediatric therapeutic domain.

2. Client and Industry Engagement

  • Establish peer-to-peer relationships with pharmaceutical therapeutic area leaders and senior medical directors.

  • Support strategic alliances, client governance boards, and advisory panels.

  • Through PPD’s consulting arm, provide:

    • Gold-standard product development plans

    • High-level clinical trial design aligned with regulatory and therapeutic goals

3. Internal Medical and Scientific Leadership

  • Deliver indication-specific training for internal teams.

  • Provide expert guidance during clinical trial execution phases.

  • Contribute to the development of:

    • Investigator brochures

    • Clinical study reports

    • NDA/MAA submission packages

    • Regulatory briefing documents

  • Participate in feasibility study design and reporting.

  • Serve as a mentor and supervisor for PPD’s clinical scientists.

  • Build and maintain collaborations with investigators and key opinion leaders (KOLs).

4. Innovation and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in multidisciplinary innovation initiatives within PPD.

  • Contribute pediatric and regulatory expertise to cross-therapeutic strategic development.


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Certified Pediatrician (MD/DO or equivalent).

Experience

  • 7–10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or government/regulatory agencies.

  • Proven leadership in the clinical development of at least one asset from discovery through registration.

  • Strong knowledge of pediatric regulatory and developmental frameworks.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range (Maryland): USD $275,000 – $385,000 per year
Bonus Eligibility: Variable annual performance-based bonus
