Role Summary

The Trainer – Multispecialty Denial Profee Coding is responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously improving coding training programs focused on professional fee (Profee) denial management and multispecialty medical coding. The role involves identifying skill gaps, conducting retraining and refresher programs, monitoring trainee performance, and ensuring coders are equipped with the latest coding guidelines, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.

This position serves as a key contributor to coding quality, productivity, compliance, and workforce development by partnering with operational leaders and training managers to strengthen coding performance across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Training Needs Assessment & Gap Analysis

  • Identify coding knowledge gaps and performance deficiencies within coding teams.

  • Collaborate with department training managers to develop targeted retraining plans.

  • Analyze:

    • Quality Scores

    • Productivity Metrics

    • Audit Findings

    • Coding Error Trends

  • Recommend training interventions to address identified gaps.

  • Support continuous competency development initiatives.

Training Program Delivery

  • Conduct training programs related to:

    • Multispecialty Medical Coding

    • Professional Fee (Profee) Coding

    • Denial Management

    • Coding Compliance

    • Coding Guidelines Updates

  • Deliver:

    • New Hire Training

    • Refresher Training

    • Continued Education Sessions

    • Remediation Programs

  • Ensure training programs align with business requirements and coding standards.

Performance Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Monitor trainee performance throughout training programs.

  • Evaluate:

    • Examination Results

    • Coding Accuracy

    • Productivity Metrics

    • Knowledge Retention

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to trainees.

  • Develop performance improvement recommendations based on training outcomes.

  • Present findings and corrective action plans to management.

Curriculum Development & Training Content Management

  • Create, revise, and maintain:

    • Training Manuals

    • Training Presentations

    • Learning Materials

    • Coding Reference Guides

    • Assessment Tools

  • Update training content based on:

    • Coding Guideline Changes

    • Regulatory Updates

    • Business Process Modifications

  • Ensure training materials remain current and relevant.

Coding Education & Knowledge Sharing

  • Conduct ongoing educational sessions covering:

    • ICD-10-CM Updates

    • CPT Updates

    • HCPCS Updates

    • Denial Prevention Strategies

    • Specialty-Specific Coding Requirements

  • Promote continuous learning and professional development.

  • Serve as a coding subject matter resource for trainees and operational teams.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

  • Maintain open communication with:

    • Trainees

    • Operations Teams

    • Auditors

    • Quality Teams

    • Department Leadership

  • Participate in weekly management meetings to:

    • Report Training Progress

    • Discuss Challenges

    • Recommend Curriculum Enhancements

  • Support alignment between training and operational objectives.

Training Administration & Tracking

  • Maintain and update training records and performance tracking systems.

  • Utilize RevTrack and other departmental tools to:

    • Monitor Training Activities

    • Track Completion Status

    • Ensure Timely Follow-Up Actions

  • Support compliance and documentation requirements related to training programs.

Quality & Compliance Support

  • Reinforce coding quality standards and compliance expectations.

  • Ensure training programs support adherence to:

    • ICD-10-CM Guidelines

    • CPT Guidelines

    • HCPCS Guidelines

    • Payer-Specific Requirements

    • Organizational Policies

  • Partner with quality teams to reduce coding errors and denial rates.

  • Support audit readiness and coding quality initiatives.

Professional Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Engage in ongoing learning and professional development activities.

  • Stay updated on:

    • Coding Regulations

    • Industry Best Practices

    • Healthcare Reimbursement Changes

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of training methodologies and learning effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

Education

One of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:

    • Life Sciences

    • Allied Health Sciences

    • Pharmacy

    • Nursing

    • Healthcare Administration

    • Related Healthcare Discipline

Certification (Mandatory)

One or more of the following:

  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder)

  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)

  • CPC-H

  • Other AAPC Certifications

  • Other AHIMA Certifications

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of medical coding experience.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Guidehouse.

  • Experience in:

    • Professional Fee Coding (Profee)

    • Denial Coding

    • Multispecialty Medical Coding

    • Coding Quality Programs

    • Coding Training Activities

  • Experience conducting training, coaching, or mentoring programs is preferred.
