Job Summary:

The Deputy Manager – IP Trainer is responsible for accurate assignment and sequencing of ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, training coders in inpatient medical record documentation standards, and collaborating on physician query and documentation improvement processes. The trainer ensures coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and supports continuous education initiatives.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret complete electronic medical records for current admissions

  • Assign principal and secondary ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes following official guidelines

  • Participate in compliant physician query processes and collaborate with the Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) team

  • Ensure correct sequencing of codes in compliance with ICD-10, UHDDS, and regulatory requirements

  • Optimize severity of illness (SOI) and risk of mortality (ROM) scores

  • Verify Admission-Discharge-Transfer (ADT) data and correct discrepancies

  • Suggest workflow and process improvements

  • Identify key training topics and escalate to supervisors or managers

  • Stay updated with changes to ICD-10 guidelines and coding regulations

  • Participate in quality audits and productivity metrics

  • Provide expert advice and act as a subject matter expert for internal teams


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate in Life Sciences or Allied Medicine

  • Certified by AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC preferred)

  • Minimum 5+ years of training experience in the Inpatient (IP) coding domain

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, medical terminology, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology

  • Familiarity with RAC, OIG, and third-party audit programs

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical thinking skills

  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, and prioritize tasks

  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends if needed

  • Ability to support and guide Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams
