Role Overview

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will analyze real-world data to extract insights and develop machine learning models, driving the development and optimization of Abbott's diabetes care devices. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to incorporate real-world evidence (RWE) into product development and lifecycle management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis & Modeling:

    • Analyze large datasets (e.g., device data, EHRs, claims, labs, and patient registries).
    • Conduct RWE studies to understand treatment patterns, effectiveness, and disease burden.
    • Develop and validate machine learning models for predictive analytics.
  • Advanced Analytics:

    • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and relationships in data.
    • Apply techniques such as regression, clustering, forecasting, and neural networks.
    • Adapt or create novel algorithms to meet analytical needs.
  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Present data insights to stakeholders in an intuitive and actionable manner.
    • Work with clinical, medical, regulatory, and market access teams to integrate findings.
    • Educate and mentor team members in analytics techniques.
  • Process Development:

    • Contribute to improving departmental processes and best practices.
    • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory guidelines in data science and RWE.

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Life or Physical Sciences, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
    • 4–6 years of experience in data science or related fields.
    • Proficiency in programming (Python, R, Java, Scala, or C++) and big data tools (Hadoop, Spark, MongoDB).
    • Advanced knowledge of statistical and analytical methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with RWE, health economics, or outcomes research in medical devices/pharma.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices.
  • Publications or presentations in scientific forums.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Pay: $109,300 – $218,500 (location-dependent).
