About the Role:

Optum seeks a skilled Deputy Manager – Medical Coding in Hyderabad to lead a large team of certified coders (75–90 members). You’ll drive team performance, productivity, and quality standards while fostering stakeholder relationships and facilitating operational excellence in medical coding and clinical operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance development for a team of 75–90 certified medical coders.

  • Manage KPIs such as timeliness, coding quality, productivity, attendance, and attrition.

  • Oversee operational execution—job planning, performance appraisal, coaching, and disciplinary actions.

  • Ensure quality deliverables through process improvements and by monitoring client satisfaction.

  • Facilitate internal audits, compliance checks, and enforce quality standards.

  • Maintain technical and domain expertise by engaging in educational workshops and benchmarking best practices.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for client communications and relationship management.

  • Develop, monitor, and refine coding operations, workflow systems, and procedural standards.

  • Drive retention strategies and manage team morale effectively.


Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Graduate in any discipline (Life Sciences graduates preferred).

  • Certified medical coder (CPC, CCS, CPC-H, or CCS-P) with at least 2 years of coding experience.

  • 10+ years in medical coding, including solid experience in coaching, performance management, and team leadership.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and operational workflow tools.

  • Strong aptitude in analytical thinking, people management, and quality governance.

  • Excellent communication, feedback delivery, and team-building skills.
