About the Role:

Optum is hiring a Medical Coding Analyst in Chennai to perform coding reviews, assign CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM codes, and ensure compliance with AMA, AHA, and CMS guidelines. This role requires accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to collaborate in a team setting to improve coding quality and productivity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply AMA, AHA, and CMS coding guidelines for accurate medical record documentation.

  • Review medical records and assign/modify CPT codes for minor surgeries, vaccines, and lab procedures.

  • Extract and code screening CPT and HCPCS codes from patient documentation.

  • Perform NCCI edits and LCD/NCD coverage checks; update codes and modifiers accordingly.

  • Maintain adherence to HIPAA confidentiality and data security policies.

  • Organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely resolution of coding edits.

  • Contribute to team quality and productivity improvements through feedback and collaboration.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Graduate in any discipline.

  • Certified coder through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC – any one).

  • Fresher or up to 1 year of medical coding experience.

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

  • Proficient in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines.

  • Knowledge of security protocols for patient data and healthcare systems.
