Position Overview:
The Specialty Oncology Clinical Pharmacist will be responsible for direct patient care in the specialty pharmacy, focusing on optimizing specialty medication therapies to improve patient outcomes, safety, and cost utilization. The role requires experience in Specialty Pharmacy and Oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service, utilizing the AIDET model for patient interactions.
  • Review and monitor patient treatment medications for appropriateness based on clinical and institutional guidelines.
  • Perform final professional review and verification of prescription filling.
  • Provide accurate and timely drug information to patients, medical staff, and nursing staff.
  • Supervise and mentor pharmacy interns and technicians, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to AIDET standards.
  • Manage inventory and order medications from appropriate wholesalers, following sound accounting principles.
  • Act as a liaison to other departments, such as Hospice, Social Service, Meds to Beds, Specialty Pharmacy, and provider offices.
  • Maintain licensure and complete departmental competency assessments.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines from organizations such as the State Board of Pharmacy and the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Education, Credentials, and Licenses:

  • Graduate from NABP-accredited pharmacy college.
  • Current US pharmacist license in the state where work is being performed.

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask and provide excellent customer service.
  • Familiar with current practice standards (ASHP).

Experience:

  • Previous pharmacy experience, preferably in a specialty pharmacy or oncology setting.
