Job Summary:

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is seeking a Specialty Pharmacy Oncology Clinical Pharmacist to provide direct patient care in our specialty pharmacy. This role is integral to optimizing specialty medication therapies, improving patient outcomes, ensuring safety, and managing cost utilization. Ideal candidates should have experience in Specialty Pharmacy and Oncology.

The pharmacist will provide medication management and counseling for patients, collaborate with healthcare teams, and ensure that all medications are accurately dispensed in accordance with clinical guidelines. The pharmacist is also expected to offer high-level customer service, monitor for any potential medication-related issues, and guide patients through their medication regimens.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care and Counseling:

    • Provide accurate medication counseling and recommendations, ensuring there are no pharmacologic or physiologic contraindications.
    • Review and monitor patient medications for appropriateness based on clinical and institutional guidelines.
    • Provide accurate, timely, and sufficient drug information to patients, medical staff, and nursing staff.
  • Pharmacy Operations:

    • Perform final professional review and verification of prescriptions and offsite facility orders.
    • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of medication filling, with a pharmacist final check before dispensing.
    • Maintain and manage pharmacy inventory, ensuring products are on hand and ordered from appropriate wholesalers, in accordance with sound accounting principles.
  • Team Leadership:

    • Supervise and mentor Pharmacy Interns and Technicians, ensuring timely completion of tasks and adherence to AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you).
    • Report any behavioral issues to leadership and ensure adherence to organizational values, including ICARE.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration:

    • Act as a liaison between pharmacy and other departments, including Hospice, Social Services, SDS, Meds to Beds, and Specialty Pharmacy, as well as provider offices and other healthcare departments.
  • Professional Development:

    • Maintain licensure and professional competency by completing required training, continuing education, and departmental skills assessments.
    • Stay up to date on current pharmacy practices and seek to develop expertise in specialized areas of pharmacy.
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines including those set by the State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS, FDA, and The Joint Commission.
  • Other Duties:

    • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership, ensuring that patient care standards are met and organizational goals are achieved.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Credentials:

    • Graduate from an NABP accredited pharmacy school.
    • Current U.S. pharmacist license in the state of employment.
  • Specialized Knowledge:

    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities.
    • Good communication and customer service skills.
    • Familiarity with Current Pharmacy Practice Standards (ASHP).
  • Experience:

    • Previous pharmacy experience required, with a focus on oncology and specialty pharmacy preferred.
  • FLSA Status:

    • Non-Exempt.
