Pharmacist Staff - Oncology Clinic

Position Overview

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Pharmacist Staff to join the Oncology Clinic team. The pharmacist will provide pharmaceutical care with a focus on clinical monitoring, therapeutic interventions, and medication use safety to improve patient outcomes. This role requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care to patients in the oncology department.


Key Responsibilities

  • Medication Order Verification: Review and interpret medication orders, ensuring they meet necessary requirements and are appropriate for the patient’s condition. Address any issues with orders and provide therapeutic alternatives when needed.
  • Therapeutic Clinical Monitoring: Participate in the ongoing monitoring of medication therapy in compliance with collaborative care agreements and protocols. Document recommendations and assessments in the patient’s chart.
  • Compounding and Dispensing Pharmaceuticals: Supervise and ensure accurate, timely dispensing of medications and follow USP standards for compounding, ingredient compatibility, and labeling.
  • Supervising Interns and Technicians: Provide direct supervision and mentorship for interns and technicians to ensure accurate medication dispensing and efficient patient care.
  • Medication Safety Initiatives: Identify and report variances in medication dispensing, actively participating in departmental initiatives to improve medication safety.
  • Controlled Substance Accountability: Ensure accurate receipt, dispensing, and distribution of controlled substances, maintaining proper inventory records and addressing discrepancies.
  • Financial Contributions: Support the financial success of the department by ensuring formulary adherence and suggesting therapeutic alternatives for non-formulary requests.
  • Drug Information and Staff Development: Provide accurate drug information to medical and nursing staff and serve as a preceptor or advisor for pharmacy residents and interns.
  • Professional Competency: Maintain licensure, complete competency assessments, and stay up to date with the latest pharmacy practices and oncology treatments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy college.
  • Licenses: Current US pharmacist license in the state of Kentucky.
  • Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred, particularly in oncology or clinical settings.
  • Skills: Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills. Knowledge of current pharmacy practice standards (ASHP).
