Role Overview:

Takeda is seeking a Medical Director (India) to spearhead its GI2 Therapeutic Area Unit (TAU) clinical development strategy across India. Reporting into R&D China & APAC, this role will be the local clinical lead for GI2 pipeline compounds—from strategic planning and protocol development to regulatory submission and market registration.

This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership position with a direct influence on both regional and global drug development timelines and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in strategic decision-making to shape local NDA/CTA plans and execution.

2. Study Execution & Oversight:

  • Own end-to-end clinical study responsibilities—from concept and protocol design through data lock and interpretation.

  • Monitor data from India-based trials and align it with global development goals.

  • Ensure trial outcomes are medically significant and regulatory-ready.

3. Trial Enrollment & Medical Monitoring:

  • Drive booster enrollment initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Oversee medical monitoring, including subject safety assessments and protocol compliance.

4. External Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Cultivate strong ties with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and clinical investigators in India.

  • Serve as Takeda’s face to local Health Authorities, representing clinical science in regulatory interactions.

5. Strategic Development Projects:

  • Contribute to due diligence, BD alliances, and licensing evaluations for pipeline acceleration.

  • Provide clinical leadership in feasibility analysis, trial evaluation, and deal assessment.

6. Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Mentor local team members and drive TA capability-building across the region.

  • Lead multi-disciplinary taskforces and contribute to Asia-wide clinical efficiency.

  • Represent Takeda’s inclusive, innovative, and people-first R&D culture across all engagements.

    • MD (or internationally equivalent degree)

    • GI2 therapeutic specialization preferred

  • Experience:

    • 15+ years in clinical practice, research, or pharmaceutical development

    • Proven success in leading Indian clinical teams, trial design, and regulatory submissions (NDA/CTA)

    • Experience in APAC countries outside India is a plus

    • GI2 therapeutic area experience required

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

    • Proficiency in English and Indian languages

    • Demonstrated capability in regulatory strategy, data interpretation, and investigator engagement

    • Experience with cross-cultural matrix environments

    • High ethical standards aligned with Takeda Leadership Behaviors
