Job Purpose

The Coder uses advanced medical coding skills to conduct invoice reviews, assign accurate codes, and provide expertise to billing staff to ensure correct claim submission and payment.


Duties & Responsibilities

Coding & Auditing

  • Perform audits and coding reviews to ensure documentation accuracy, including reviews for co-source partners

  • Assign and sequence CPT and ICD-10 codes for rendered services when required

  • Comply with all Medicare policies, coding initiatives, and guidelines

Billing & Payment Support

  • Collaborate with billing teams and work queues to ensure accurate claim payments

  • Work independently from assigned work queues

Compliance & Confidentiality

  • Protect and use PHI only in compliance with HIPAA standards

  • Follow Information Security and HIPAA policies at all times

  • Limit PHI access to the minimum necessary for job-related tasks

Professional Conduct

  • Maintain confidentiality and a professional attitude

  • Communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management


Qualifications

Required

  • CPC (AAPC) or CCS (AHIMA) certification

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years of coding experience in relevant specialties (e.g., IP DRG, OP, Denials, SDS)

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel

  • Ability to use job-related software

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience in Surgical Coding

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration

  • Creative problem-solving ability and sound decision-making skills

  • High integrity, dependability, urgency, and results-driven approach

  • Customer-friendly and welcoming personality
