Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. Under general supervision, this position involves administering complex respiratory therapy procedures for individuals with compromised cardiopulmonary functions. You will be responsible for evaluating and treating patients with developmental defects, injuries, diseases, or other conditions that threaten their respiratory health. The position includes performing a variety of respiratory care treatments, collaborating with physicians, and monitoring the effectiveness of therapy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of respiratory care treatments for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
  • Explain treatments to patients and families, ensuring understanding and cooperation.
  • Monitor physical signs and symptoms, adjusting treatments as necessary.
  • Participate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures, including airway management and ventilation.
  • Administer therapeutic and diagnostic gases, bronchodilator treatments, and aerosolized medications.
  • Assist with the insertion, maintenance, and removal of artificial airways.
  • Perform age-specific respiratory techniques, including mechanical ventilation and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) in critical care areas.
  • Interpret chest x-rays, blood gas results, and other diagnostic tests to adjust patient treatment plans.
  • Ensure the operation, calibration, and maintenance of respiratory equipment, including ventilators, nebulizers, and oxygen delivery devices.
  • Document all patient care activities and equipment maintenance, ensuring proper billing and compliance with procedures.
  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to respiratory care interns and students.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Associate degree required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
    • Graduate from an AMA-approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Licensure & Certification:
    • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
    • Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance.
    • CPR certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist is preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • In-depth knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and equipment.
    • Proficient in the use of respiratory therapy equipment such as ventilators, nebulizers, and oxygen delivery devices.
    • Ability to assess and adjust patient treatments based on blood gas results and clinical condition.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, physicians, and staff.
    • Ability to work in fast-paced, critical care environments, including mechanical ventilation and CPAP management.
