Job Overview

The Regional Medical Advisor (R&I) is a field-based medical affairs professional responsible for executing medical strategies across assigned therapeutic areas and geographies. This role plays a critical part in shaping clinical practice through high-quality scientific engagement, evidence generation, and cross-functional collaboration, supporting both pre-launch and newly launched products.

The position requires strong scientific acumen, deep healthcare system understanding, and the ability to partner with both traditional and non-traditional stakeholders to ensure the safe, effective, and appropriate use of AstraZeneca medicines.


Key Responsibilities

Medical & Scientific Leadership

  • Execute Medical Affairs plans aligned with regional and global medical strategies

  • Maintain advanced scientific expertise in disease areas, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and competitive landscapes

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders

  • Contribute to and lead Field Medical Strategic Plans (FMSP)

Scientific Exchange & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions with healthcare professionals and key external experts

  • Respond to unsolicited medical inquiries with balanced, evidence-based information

  • Organize and lead scientific engagements including advisory boards, symposia, MSL events, and expert panel discussions

  • Deliver high-quality scientific presentations tailored to healthcare professionals

  • Build and sustain strategic relationships with key external experts and opinion leaders

Evidence Generation & Medical Insights

  • Collaborate with investigators on local studies, investigator-sponsored research, and publications

  • Identify and communicate actionable medical insights to internal teams

  • Support clinical development and post-marketing research initiatives

  • Analyze healthcare ecosystem gaps and patient journey challenges to inform strategy

Strategic Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner cross-functionally with commercial, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, and compliance teams

  • Ensure strict adherence to AstraZeneca Global Field Medical Standards, GxP, GCP, and pharmacovigilance requirements

  • Promote ethical interactions aligned with local laws, regulations, and internal policies

  • Leverage digital tools and innovative technologies to enhance scientific exchange and patient-centric solutions


Education & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in a scientific discipline (Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field)

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical, project management, and presentation capabilities

  • Ability to engage effectively using a multi-channel communication approach

Desirable Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent)

  • Solid understanding of clinical research, regulatory environments, and therapeutic disease management


Experience Required

  • Minimum 4–8 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Medical Advisor, MSL, clinical research, or pharmaceutical industry roles

  • Proven experience engaging with healthcare professionals and key external experts

  • Exposure to evidence generation, clinical studies, and scientific communication within pharma or biotech environments
