Role Overview

The Regional Medical Advisor (R&I) is a field-based medical expert responsible for executing the Medical Affairs Plan for pre-launch and newly launched products. This role engages traditional healthcare professionals (HCPs) and non-traditional stakeholders such as policymakers, patient advocacy groups (PAGs), government bodies, and innovative solution providers.

You will act as a catalyst for evidence-based medical strategy, providing scientific insights that drive sustainable clinical practice improvements, enhance patient outcomes, and promote the safe and effective use of AstraZeneca medicines.


Key Responsibilities

Scientific Expertise & Medical Strategy:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of disease state management, AstraZeneca products, emerging therapies, and competitive landscape.

  • Contribute to the Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP) for your therapeutic area.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Mentor and train internal stakeholders on clinical and medical insights.

Scientific Exchange & Engagement:

  • Conduct peer-to-peer scientific dialogues with key HCPs and stakeholders.

  • Respond to unsolicited inquiries with accurate, evidence-based medical information.

  • Organize and facilitate scientific events including advisory boards, symposia, and “Meet the Professor” sessions.

  • Support investigator-initiated studies and relevant publication activities.

Customer Insight & Strategy:

  • Gather, analyze, and report insights from healthcare stakeholders to inform medical strategies.

  • Identify gaps in patient journeys and integrate actionable insights into clinical and product plans.

  • Build sustainable partnerships with both traditional and non-traditional stakeholders to enhance access to care and adoption of innovative medicines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Medical, Commercial, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to implement medical strategies.

  • Leverage digital tools and innovative technologies to enhance scientific exchange and patient-centric solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with pharmacovigilance, GxP, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles, including adverse event reporting.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s or higher degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related scientific discipline.

  • 5–10 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, or related pharmaceutical roles.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven ability to engage effectively with HCPs, KEEs, and internal stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, project management, and strategic thinking skills.

Desirable:

  • Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in a relevant discipline.

  • Experience in research & innovation (R&I), clinical trials, or medical strategy development.

  • Familiarity with regulatory environments, ethical interaction policies, and pharmacovigilance standards.
