Job Summary:

The QC Team Leader – Microbiology is responsible for managing and leading the microbiology team within the Quality Control (QC) laboratory. This role involves supervising daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with cGxP and HSE regulations, and providing technical expertise in microbiological testing. The Team Leader will also oversee resource planning, performance management, and training of team members while collaborating with internal and external partners to support site quality objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

Operational & Technical Leadership:

  • Oversee microbiological activities, ensuring alignment with site quality objectives.
  • Supervise daily laboratory operations, including resource planning, workload management, and scheduling of activities.
  • Monitor and approve microbiological testing, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead Operational Excellence (OpEx) projects to improve efficiency and effectiveness in QC operations.
  • Investigate deviations, OOS (Out of Specification) results, OOx (Out of Expectation), and customer complaints, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Define, implement, and track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs).
  • Support technology transfer projects and validation studies related to microbiological testing.
  • Manage equipment commissioning (OQ, PQ) and ensure the availability of consumables and chemicals.
  • Review and approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Track and ensure KQI/KPI metrics meet performance requirements.

People Leadership & Training:

  • Lead the hiring, training, coaching, and performance management of the microbiology team.
  • Develop a career path and succession plan for associates within the team.
  • Personally mentor and develop talents, promoting a high-engagement work environment.
  • Ensure team members are properly trained and qualified for GMP tasks before independent execution.
  • Support talent exchange programs and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Identify Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) within the team for knowledge sharing and support.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure adherence to GMP, HSE, and 5S guidelines in all laboratory operations.
  • Maintain laboratory excellence through best practices in Quality Control (QC) testing and sampling.
  • Apply Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and industry GxP standards.
  • Monitor and control costs while managing laboratory resources efficiently.
  • Drive quality decision-making and risk assessment in microbiological processes.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technological field such as Microbiology, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, or an equivalent discipline.

Experience & Technical Expertise:

  • Strong background in microbiological analytics or diagnostics, including microbial growth properties and culture media preparation.
  • Quality Control & Assurance experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Expertise in environmental monitoring, cleanroom classification, and microbiological testing.
  • Project management experience, including CAPA implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in laboratory equipment management, GMP regulations, and industry quality standards.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and other IT applications that support quality control activities.
