Position Overview

The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Critical Care provides comprehensive clinical pharmacy services for pediatric critical care patients, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications. This role involves direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching, research, and quality improvement.

This position includes rotating shifts, including weekends.


Key Responsibilities

🔹 Patient Care

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services to a specialized pediatric critical care population.
  • Attend medical team rounds, recommend medication therapies, adjust drug dosages, and monitor treatment effectiveness.
  • Conduct population-based drug evaluations and implement protocols, order sets, and Epic alerts to enhance patient safety.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call coverage for assigned medical teams.

🔹 Teaching & Education

  • Precept Pharmacy Residents, Pharmacists, Interns, and Students.
  • Conduct accredited continuing education for the Pharmacy Division.
  • Train and educate medical and nursing staff on medication therapies.

🔹 Performance Improvement

  • Identify and implement patient safety and organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in committees and improvement teams for pharmacy and critical care units.

🔹 Research & Scholarly Activity

  • Lead or contribute to research projects, poster presentations, and publications.

Minimum Qualifications

PharmD Degree
Ohio Pharmacist License
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
PGY2 Residency in Pediatrics or relevant Critical Care specialty
