Job Overview

The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator ensures the safe, cost-effective, and appropriate use of medications within the hospital, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves collaborating with pharmacy leadership, mentoring staff and residents, and managing clinical pharmacy programs.

Additionally, this position acts as the Residency Program Director for the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Good Samaritan Hospital, requiring expertise in ASHP residency program accreditation and development.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Educational Leadership

  • Coordinate and implement educational training and competency programs for pharmacy staff.
  • Oversee new clinical pharmacy initiatives and monitor clinical interventions.
  • Act as a preceptor for advanced PharmD students, assessing their performance.
  • Develop and enforce hospital policies on medication utilization in collaboration with medical staff.
  • Ensure safe and effective medication use, intervening as needed.
  • Monitor and manage non-formulary medication use within the hospital.
  • Participate in hospital formulary development and P&T activities.

Residency Program Leadership

  • Oversee recruitment, selection, instruction, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of residents.
  • Maintain the Postgraduate Pharmacy Residency Program according to ASHP accreditation standards.
  • Chair the Residency Advisory Committee (RAC).
  • Maintain accreditation records and evaluate preceptors.

Interdepartmental Collaboration

  • Work with nursing leadership and educators to provide medication education.
  • Attend physician institute and section meetings as required.
  • Support pharmacy leadership in staff performance appraisals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) – Required
  • Ohio Board of Pharmacy Licensure – Required
  • 1-2 years of experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting

  • Experience with ASHP accreditation and residency program development
  • Leadership experience in clinical pharmacy initiatives
