The pathologist will review work performed by nurses and provide guidance on donor suitability based on medical histories and plasma donation procedures. The position requires 4 hours per week, with flexibility for scheduling visits to the donor center. This is a perfect opportunity for a pathologist looking to earn additional income on a flexible schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • On-Site Duties: Work up to 4 hours per week on-site at the donor center as an alternate to the primary CLIA Director.
  • Review Donor Suitability: Oversee RN staff to ensure plasma donor suitability by reviewing:
    • Medical health histories
    • Procedures related to plasmapheresis, hazards, immunization programs, and adverse reactions
    • Informed consent and counseling on donor deferrals
    • Documentation of donor interactions
  • Adverse Event Review: Assess and provide recommendations regarding donor treatment and suitability following adverse events related to plasmapheresis.
  • Staff Training: Provide training for donor center medical personnel, including Physician Substitutes and other physicians.
  • Lab Result Review: Review lab results as necessary, exercising independent judgment on donor suitability.
  • Availability: Be available for phone calls during the center’s operating hours, though phone calls will be limited to approximately 3 calls per week.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate from a licensed medical or osteopathic school.
  • Licensing: Licensed in the state where the center operates.
  • Certification: Board-certified Pathologist with experience in Blood Banking (based on state requirements).
  • Experience: Prior experience in plasma donor suitability or blood banking is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping abilities.
    • Professional demeanor, especially when working with nurses and other medical personnel.
    • Good communication skills for training and phone consultations.

Working Hours:

  • Typically, 4 hours per week on-site after training.
  • The role can be completed in one visit per week or multiple visits depending on preference.
  • The pathologist must be available weekly to visit the donor center.

Why Apply?

  • Flexible Schedule: Great for those seeking additional income with a flexible, part-time commitment.
  • Non-Patient Facing: Focus on medical oversight and regulatory compliance without direct patient care.
  • Supportive Training: Comprehensive training with an experienced pathologist/doctor to ensure success in the role.

If you're a licensed pathologist with blood banking experience and looking for an opportunity to contribute to an important medical role on a part-time basis, this may be the ideal position for you.
