Role Overview:

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a key field-based role responsible for providing scientific expertise and engaging with external experts to support Pfizer’s products and therapeutic areas. The MSL will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Medical Lead, to drive medical affairs strategies, enhance clinical research efforts, and maintain up-to-date scientific knowledge in relevant therapeutic areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Engagement with External Experts:

  • Develop and implement Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plans in collaboration with the Medical Lead, ensuring alignment with annual objectives.
  • Investigate and understand KOL needs and the organizational structures of their affiliated institutions.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with KOLs, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge Acquisition and Intelligence Gathering:

  • Collect medical insights from field interactions and communicate relevant scientific trends to internal teams (Medical and Scientific Affairs, cross-functional teams).
  • Attend key national and regional scientific meetings and advisory boards to gain and disseminate relevant information.
  • Maintain in-depth scientific expertise on therapeutic areas, disease states, and Pfizer products, both pre-marketing and post-marketing.
  • Develop familiarity with competitor products and therapeutic developments.

Knowledge Translation and Scientific Exchange:

  • Present non-promotional scientific information on the safe and effective use of Pfizer products to KOLs and stakeholders.
  • Support Medical Lead, Patient Access, and Government Relations colleagues by providing scientific and medical support.
  • Identify opportunities and speakers for regional medical education events aligned with the Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area (TA) Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate in the development of speaker training programs and content for medical education activities.

Clinical Research Support:

  • Understand KOL and affiliated institution capabilities/experience with clinical trials, assisting with their involvement where applicable.

Non-Promotional Scientific Information Activities:

  • Engage in non-promotional activities such as advisory boards, continuing professional education (CME/CPD), medical forums, and scientific events.
  • Ensure all engagements and communications are scientific in nature and comply with medical governance guidelines.

Competency and Development:

  • Stay updated on advances in the therapeutic area, ongoing and completed studies, and clinical data.
  • Continuously develop personal competencies and expertise in assigned therapeutic areas.

Medical Governance:

  • Adhere to medical governance frameworks, global and local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and relevant medical guidelines.
  • Ensure all activities comply with corporate ethical standards and local regulations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Medical Degree (MD), Pharmacy Degree (PharmD), PhD, or Master's level degree in health sciences (e.g., recognized qualifications such as MD, MBBS, or Pharmacist).
  • The position requires extensive field-based travel (up to 75% travel by car, train, and plane) to cover the assigned geography.
  • Ability to use field-based electronic communication tools for job functions.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical research methodology, scientific judgment, and the therapeutic area.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex scientific information effectively.
  • Proactive attitude with a passion for vaccines and scientific advancements.
