Patient Access Supervisor – Bangor, ME

Company: Northern Light Health (in partnership with Optum)
Location: Bangor, Maine (On-site)
Compensation: $58,800 – $105,000 annually (based on experience & eligibility)


Job Summary

Northern Light Health, in collaboration with Optum, is hiring a Patient Access Supervisor to oversee the central registration department, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional patient experience. This role is ideal for candidates with healthcare administration expertise and supervisory experience who can manage non-clinical tasks, lead a team, and coordinate 24/7 registration coverage.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the central registration team, ensuring proper staffing and phone coverage.

  • Approve PTO requests and monitor attendance, performance, and call quality.

  • Conduct quarterly 1:1 staff meetings to provide feedback and guidance.

  • Prioritize and assign daily tasks to meet department deadlines and service quality benchmarks.

  • Prepare and review reports related to non-clinical administrative functions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Continuity of Care, Member Services, and IT.

  • Identify operational challenges and implement process improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and service standards.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED (Bachelor’s in healthcare administration preferred).

  • 2+ years of customer service experience with 1+ years in a supervisory/managerial role.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or Google Suite equivalents.

  • Experience with healthcare or medical terminology (preferred).

  • Ability to work onsite: 489 State St, Bangor, ME 04401, with weekly coverage at 915 Union Street.

  • Flexible availability including overnights, weekends, and rotating holidays.

  • Flu vaccination compliance (and boosters where mandated).

Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare/insurance benefits or medical office settings.

  • Familiarity with medical billing or collections.

  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
