Job Summary

Optum, a global healthcare and technology leader under UnitedHealth Group, is recruiting Medical Coders to support accurate, compliant ICD‑10 and CPT‑4 coding for inpatient and outpatient encounters. This role is ideal for AAPC/AHIMA certified coders (CPC, CCS, CIC, COC) ranging from certified freshers to 5 years of experience (G23–G24) who can consistently achieve ≥95% coding accuracy, meet productivity targets, and contribute to precise hospital reimbursement, regulatory reporting, and healthcare analytics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD‑10 and/or CPT‑4 codes for inpatient and outpatient records per Coding Department guidelines, maintaining ≥95% accuracy.

  • Identify and abstract clinical information to support hospital, regional, and government statistics/planning and accurate reimbursement.

  • Meet departmental productivity and TAT standards for coding and data entry.

  • Participate in coding meetings, educational conferences, and conference calls to sustain coding quality and regulatory compliance.

  • Demonstrate strong time management: meet deadlines and minimize non-essential interruptions.

  • Collaborate effectively with hospital and departmental staff; maintain professional rapport.

  • Comply with company policies, including potential re-assignment to teams/locations or shift changes as business needs evolve.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Graduate – any discipline.

  • Mandatory active certification from AAPC or AHIMA (accepted: CPC, CCS, CIC, COC – any one).

  • Certified fresher or experienced coder (G23: 0–2+ years; G24: 3–5 years).

  • Proven understanding of ICD‑10, CPT‑4 coding principles, sequencing logic, and departmental guidelines.

  • Ability to consistently meet quality (≥95%) and productivity benchmarks.

  • Strong attention to detail, documentation abstraction, and deadline orientation.

  • Excellent communication and willingness to work additional/alternate hours when required.
