Schedule and Hours

Job Summary

The Language Access Coordinator ensures effective communication for patients and families with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) or those requiring American Sign Language (ASL) services. This role adheres to hospital policies, federal regulations, and TJC/CMS guidelines. The coordinator serves as an interpreter for outpatient clinic appointments, inpatient care, and emergency department needs while contributing to the development and improvement of internal interpreter services.


Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person interpreting services, prioritizing outpatient clinics.
  • Assist in developing and refining strategies for internal interpreter programs.
  • Monitor trends and propose improvements in language resources and communication strategies for LEP patients and families.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for language services.
  • Facilitate cultural competency and advocate for diverse patient needs.

Education Requirements

  • Preferred: GED/High School diploma or Associate's degree.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of interpreting experience required, with at least 1 year of medical interpreting preferred.
  • 1–3 years of healthcare experience preferred.

Certifications and Training

  • Completion of a Language Proficiency Test and Interpreter Skills Assessment required.
  • Completion of a 40-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course within 30 days of hire is required.
