Position Summary

The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections. This role also involves educating hospital staff on infection prevention strategies and ensuring compliance with infection control standards. The IP will work closely with the Director of Quality Management to implement practices that adhere to regulations and guidelines from agencies such as The Joint Commission (TJC), OSHA, CMS, ODH, and the CDC. This position requires a deep understanding of infection control principles, including hand hygiene, PPE use, respiratory hygiene, and safe injection practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance of hospital-acquired infections and provide analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

  • Educate hospital staff about infection prevention methods and evaluate patient care practices for compliance.

  • Ensure that infection control policies and procedures meet the requirements of national agencies (e.g., TJC, OSHA, CMS, CDC).

  • Collaborate with the Director of Quality Management to implement effective infection prevention strategies.

  • Monitor and evaluate infection control practices, including hand hygiene, PPE, safe injection practices, and aseptic techniques.

  • Ensure adherence to infection control standards such as environmental cleaning, waste disposal, and infection monitoring.

  • Contribute to performance improvement and quality management initiatives.

  • Provide training and education on infection control standards to staff members across the facility.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Registered Nurse (BSN preferred) or MT (ASCP) with a current Ohio license or certification.

  • Experience:

    • At least five years of experience in a hospital setting.

    • Minimum three years of experience in infection control or working knowledge of infection control principles (e.g., hand hygiene, PPE, respiratory hygiene, safe injection practices).

    • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Preferred Knowledge:

    • Microbiology, TJC standards, CMS conditions of participation, OSHA, HICPAC, and NHSN.

    • Experience in performance improvement, statistics, and/or safety/risk management.

  • Licensure:

    • Registered Nurse (BSN preferred) or MT (ASCP) with Ohio license.

    • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.
