Role Overview

The Director – Biostatistics at Lilly Bangalore will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Global Statistical Sciences (GSS) team. This senior leadership role is accountable for overseeing statistical deliverables across Lilly’s global portfolio, developing technical capabilities, and ensuring high-quality, efficient, and innovative biostatistical support.

This role requires a visionary leader who can drive operational excellence, mentor high-performing teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders globally, and contribute to strategic initiatives in clinical research and drug development.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead GSS operations in Bangalore, providing strategic direction and oversight for statistical deliverables

  • Collaborate with global GSS leadership to align resources, drive efficiency, and implement continuous improvement

  • Influence cross-functional initiatives, supporting therapeutic area and business unit priorities

Statistical & Analytical Capabilities Development

  • Develop and enhance technical statistical capabilities within the team, fostering therapeutic, scientific, and analytical excellence

  • Leverage global and national networks of experts to address complex scientific questions

  • Drive innovation in statistical methods, data analysis, and interpretation across the clinical development lifecycle

Site & Enterprise Leadership

  • Partner with site leadership and global teams to optimize site strategy, operational effectiveness, and process improvements

  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, regulatory guidelines, and best practices in biostatistics and drug development

  • Represent GSS in internal and external professional forums

People Management & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing biostatistics team, including direct and indirect reports

  • Recruit and retain talent with diverse skill sets in statistical methodologies, analytical thinking, and project leadership

  • Foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and professional growth


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics

  • 15+ years of industry experience in biostatistics/statistics

  • 7+ years in supervisory roles; 5+ years as a senior leader or “leader of leaders”

  • Extensive knowledge of drug development processes, regulatory requirements, and statistical best practices

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives across people, processes, and technology

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in a global matrixed organization

  • Demonstrated success in leading large teams and managing complex, high-impact projects

Preferred

  • Experience building advanced statistical capabilities in global clinical research environments

  • Knowledge of emerging trends in biostatistics, data science, and clinical trial analytics

  • Exposure to international collaborations and cross-functional stakeholder management


Travel & Work Environment

  • Minimum travel: ~10%

  • Leadership role in a dynamic, collaborative, and globally integrated R&D environment
