Country Medical Director
Location: Hybrid, Denmark

About the Role
The Country Medical Director serves as the strategic medical leader for Novartis in Denmark, overseeing the medical function and ensuring alignment between global objectives and local market dynamics. This role drives medical excellence, develops the medical component of the integrated product strategy, and fosters bold partnerships with the healthcare system, government entities, and key medical experts (KMEs). Reporting to the Head of Medical Affairs, CMO Nordics, the position plays a critical role in shaping the healthcare landscape and advancing Novartis' mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development and Execution:
    • Lead the country-specific medical affairs strategy across therapeutic areas, ensuring alignment with global objectives and local regulations.
    • Oversee life-cycle management from clinical development to post-marketing, integrating medical insights into business goals.
    • Drive launch preparedness and execution for new products.
  • Evidence Generation and External Engagement:
    • Develop and execute local studies addressing evidence gaps, collaborating with Global Drug Development (GDD) as needed.
    • Build strategic partnerships with healthcare stakeholders, including KMEs, national guideline bodies, and decision-makers.
    • Lead collaborative initiatives for evidence generation, aligning local and global objectives.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    • Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to Medical Leads, focusing on talent development, scientific rigor, and succession planning.
    • Enhance team engagement skills and scientific knowledge for effective HCP interactions.
    • Conduct field coaching and establish KPIs to measure team performance and engagement effectiveness.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Commercial, Market Access, and other teams to ensure cohesive brand strategies and external engagement.
    • Provide medical input into country-level business strategies, ensuring scientific integrity informs decision-making.
  • Compliance and Resource Management:
    • Ensure all medical activities adhere to local regulations, GxP standards, and global Novartis policies.
    • Serve as the compliance lead for medical engagements.
    • Manage budgets and resource allocation for effective execution of medical priorities.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Life Sciences.
  • At least 6 years of experience in medical roles within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in Danish and English (written and spoken).
  • In-depth knowledge of the Nordic healthcare system, regulatory landscape, and competitive environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Desirable Qualifications

  • PhD or MD degree.
  • Experience in commercial, regulatory, and/or pharmacovigilance functions.
